Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 2026
Short version: we collect almost nothing. Your practice data stays on your device. The only personal information we ever store is your email address, and only if you choose to give it to us.
Desktop and mobile apps
The Open Dictation desktop app (macOS, Windows, Linux) and mobile app (iOS) do not collect any personal information. Specifically:
- No account is required to use the app.
- Your practice history and spaced repetition data are stored locally on your device only.
- No usage analytics, crash reports, or telemetry are sent anywhere.
- Audio files are bundled with the app or streamed from our servers โ no identifying information is attached to those requests.
- The app works fully offline after initial download.
Web app (sitedictation.com/play)
The browser-based version at sitedictation.com/play operates the same way:
- Practice transactions are stored in your browser's IndexedDB โ on your device, not our servers.
- Audio files are served from Amazon CloudFront. Standard server logs (IP address, timestamp, file requested) may be retained by AWS per their data retention policies.
- No cookies are set. No tracking pixels. No third-party analytics.
Email notifications
If you submit your email address via the "Get notified" form on our website, we store it to send you updates about new languages and features. We use Amazon Web Services to store this data.
- We will not sell or share your email with third parties.
- You can unsubscribe at any time by emailing admin@sitedictation.com.
- We do not use your email for advertising.
Children
Our apps are not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Given the nature of the product, we don't anticipate significant changes.
